Specialist Crafts Icon Crank Clay is a coarse-textured stoneware clay designed for ceramic work where strength, stability and surface character are important. Its crank body offers excellent resistance to warping and low shrinkage, making it particularly suitable for larger sculptural forms and hand-built stoneware projects.
The clay contains additional iron, which develops a distinctive warm, speckled, toasted colour when fired. Its coarse texture adds natural surface interest, making it a useful material for exploring form, structure and the relationship between clay composition and fired appearance.
With a shrinkage rate of approximately 10%, Icon Crank Clay offers greater control when planning ceramic dimensions and constructing forms. It has a bisque firing range of 1000–1060°C and a glaze firing range of 1200–1280°C, making it suitable for stoneware firing and compatible glazes.
Supplied in a 12.5kg bag, this clay is suited to school, college and specialist ceramics studios.
